Copy editors needed for 2 texts: Social Justice in Human Services & Molecular Biology

I have 2 textbooks that are in need of volunteer copy editors. I hope you will consider helping us out, or pass the word along if you know of anyone else that might be interested.

One book that needs editors is Social Justice in Human Services and is quite lengthy, around 600 pages (double spaced) or 125,000 words, so I expect to need a group of editors to work on 1-3 assigned chapters each. Some wonderful volunteers have already worked on the first 6 chapters of this text, so we are looking for editors for the remaining 10 chapters:

Social Justice & Advocacy in Human Services delves into the complex realm of social justice, offering a deep dive into historical roots and theories to practical applications in the field. This text covers fundamental concepts, including power, privilege, and oppression, and explores critical issues like racism, gender, sexuality, poverty, religion, and disability in the context of the United States. The last section of the book hones in on the field of human services, discussing power, privilege, and bias in this context, and lastly exploring equitable distribution, human rights, and the systems and entry points within human services practice.

The second book is a Molecular Biology lab book, so I’d love to find a volunteer that has some experience with STEM editing. I have 2 modules of this text that need to be edited, and I can provide examples of the other edited modules as a reference.

We are looking for someone (or a team of people) to read carefully for:

  • spelling & grammar
  • general readability, clarity, and consistency
  • Style guide adherence and consistency in matters of terms, usage, & citations (APA for Social Justice, and NLM for Molecular Biology)

This project will be completed using Google Docs, though if that is a major barrier, we can possibly use Microsoft Word or similar.

The timeline is for editing to take place this month (January 2025), with an early-mid February completion date.

Please let me know if you are willing or know of someone that may be willing to read a section of either of these texts! When you reply, if you have a preference, please let me know.

Don’t hesitate to contact me (browna@geneseo.edu, 585-245-6020) with any questions about this volunteer request.

Thank you in advance!
