Example: Formatting Content Accessibly in the Web

When formatting content in the web, can I use bold or italics for my headings for aesthetic reasons?

Hi, David! This is a great question you ask. The recommended best practice for formatting content in the web is to indicate section separations using headings styles instead of bold or italics. This is to ensure that readers using assistive technology to access your website can easily navigate how the page is organized. For more information, take a look at W3C’s Web Accessibility Tutorials: https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/page-structure/headings/.

Agree with all of this. Having said that, if you use the semantic tag, you can certainly change the visual styling of said tag to include bold. e.g. you define H2 to be Arial 16pt B I
