We are seeking book editors for two books in the Introduction to Philosophy open textbook series: Social and Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Science.
The books in the series are designed to be used in first-year level courses in colleges or universities, with chapters written by multiple authors. The series is edited by Christina Hendricks of the University of British Columbia Vancouver, with the support of The Rebus Foundation. We have so far published six books in the series: Philosophy of Mind, Ethics, Logic, Philosophy of Religion, Epistemology, and Aesthetic Theory and Practice.
We are seeking editors for these two books, as the previous editors decided to step away from the project. We have draft outlines of chapters for the books in the Table of Contents for the series; these were created by the previous editors and the new editors will be able to shape the book outlines outside of chapters already written. (Note that not all of the chapters on that outline that have authors assigned have been written already).
We are looking for editors with a PhD in philosophy who also have teaching experience at the first-year level. The book editors will be responsible for finding authors for the chapters not yet assigned to authors, ensuring chapters are written in a timely fashion, editing the chapter drafts, working with the authors on revisions after peer review, and the like.
Please see the Book Editor role description for the series for more information on the editor role. Please note that as we do not have any grant or other funding for the book series, and as the books in the series are offered free of charge, this is a volunteer role.
If you have questions, please post them below! If you are interested, please email Christina Hendricks, series editor for the books, with a statement about your interest in the role and your relevant background. Please attach a copy of your CV as well.
