Project Status Updates: General Education English

Hi @jritcher, were you the one with a Zoom account, or was that someone else? If so, could we use yours? I have a free (basic) account.

Hi Joel. Yep, that was me. I wasn’t sure if someone had set up something different for this morning. Here is a link: https://uidaho.zoom.us/j/393777289

The meeting is open!

Hello,
I would like to drop a few PDFs into one of your buckets, but the folder indicates I am not allowed to edit. Is there something you can do about that?
Also, I would like to create a Grammar and Punctuation folder, or will you do that?

Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,
I think Joel would have to create a folder since he created the original document unless we get editing privileges. However, in the meantime you could put it in Section 6 under a Conventions heading perhaps. See you at tomorrow’s meetings.

Hi Amy,

I am unable to edit the document, so I can’t add to a folder.

Yes, I will bring it up during our meeting tomorrow morning.

That’s at 9 AM Mountain time through Apurva’s Zoom link, right?

Hi Sylvia. All of the folders and files have editing rights enabled for any user so I’m not sure why you’re running into that issue. We can troubleshoot tomorrow.

Hi Joel and all,

Joel, I just took a look, and while the individual folders allow folks to edit, the “umbrella folder” (“First Year Writing Experience in Idaho”) only allows people with the link to view. I could be wrong, but I suspect this is why Sylvia can’t add documents
(even though she might be able to edit within the existing documents themselves).

See you all tomorrow,

Jamaica

Yes, that’s right! Okay, we will hash out at our team meeting tomorrow following Apurva’s 9 a.m. one.

That must be the problem! I’ve fixed the sharing options for the umbrella folder. Let me know if it’s still an issue.

Hey Team, here is a link to the Written Communication Objectives/Outcomes for the State of Idaho: https://boardofed.idaho.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Written-Comm-Rubric-FINAL-3-8-2015.pdf

I had forgotten that more recently #7 was added: Read, interpret, and communicate key concepts in writing and rhetoric.

At our own institution (LCSC) and in assessment sessions, we had some discussion on exactly what this outcome means and ultimately how we would assess it in student writing (and more specifically in particular assessment artifacts gathered at the end of each semester). I just wanted to throw this #7 outcome into the mix because, again, I had forgotten about it and wondered how we might integrate this within our textbook. Would we create a separate bucket, or is this already integrated within other buckets?

I can see both strategies! However, I would add that #7 provides us with the opportunity to integrate (critical) reading strategies which other existing OERS have that we could adopt or add to. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Thanks, Amy

Thank you for updating this! I think adding outcome #7 will be useful for us. Most of us teach some kind of unit on rhetorical analysis of a text.

Hello,

Can someone send me an invitation to our group meeting today?

Thanks

johnsylv@isu.edu

Thanks for this, Amy! Do you want to add the Section folder to our shared Google Drive space?

Absolutely–just added! Thanks!

Hi everyone, someone from @Lashleyed’s IOPEN group just provided an update on this open H5P repository that should be awesome for embedding lessons within our Pressbooks textbook: https://h5p.org/oer-hub-coming#progress

I haven’t added much to our folders since last Tuesday, but I’ll try to hop back in there sometime today. See everyone tomorrow!

Thanks, Joel! Sorry I haven’t looked at the folders—still busy prepping and moving stuff online. Hope you all are well.

Hello Liza and Joel,

I intend to attend the 7:00 AM meeting, and I would like a link to our team’s meeting afterward, please.

Like you, I will try to fit in time today to add something to the folder assigned to me.

See you tomorrow!

Sylvia

I think we’re using @jritcher’s zoom space: https://uidaho.zoom.us/j/393777289.

Yes, that was Daphne from ISU. I did not realize that they were doing so much with H5P. Maybe I can persuade her to give our groups a presentation about the uses they have found for that tool.
