@marykathleenb86 & @leanne I’ve just had a chance to go through your copy edits, and they are tremendous! (It will probably take me through the weekend to deal with the citations, but I’ve made the bulk of the text edits.) Thank you again for your hard work on this front. I have credited you both in the acknowledgements (hopefully that is helpful for LinkedIn, CVs, etc.) and am glad to vouch for your editing talents should that ever be of help. Thank you again!
@lizmays Thank you so much! I’ve really enjoyed working on this project.
I would like to participate. I have been teaching Media Entrepreneurship for 3 years and would really like to contribute to a book and also have a book for the class. https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabethstrickler/
@eli This is fantastic! I’ve sent the link and logistics to your email as well as through LinkedIn, where we are connected. Please take a look and let us know what you would like to contribute. We are interested in new chapters or sidebars as well as assignments, lesson plans, ancillary materials, resources for instructors, resources for building capacity at your institution, or other elements you think should be included!
@krysta.mcnutt Hi Krysta, We have released the beta edition for testing in classrooms this semester. While that is ongoing, we would like to get the final additions for the official launch in motion. Are you still able to write the Team Leadership chapter? We would be hoping for a deadline of early to mid-October on this. Please let me know. If so, I will get you what you need to get started.
@lizmays Thanks, Liz! I’d be glad to help out again on any upcoming projects. I was wondering if you could email me regarding a reference. I don’t know how to contact you outside of this forum. Thanks!
@marykathleenb86 That would be amazing! I will send you an email from my Rebus email account in just a few.
@lizmays Hi Liz, so sorry, somehow I missed this message! Yes, I’m still able to write the Team Leadership chapter. Would love to view the beta version for a baseline. Thanks so much!
@krysta.mcnutt Hi Krysta, That’s fantastic. Thank you so much. You can review the beta version here to get a sense. Let me know after you take a scan what questions you may have.
@krysta.mcnutt Hi Krysta, Also, if it helps, here is Author Guide. https://docs.google.com/document/d/107xze_uVsD1YKX4r14AZJ08eqwJoZqcX7vO2NQkC7YI/edit#
@lizmays Perfect, thank you! The chapter layout makes sense to me. Is there a word count expectation? I scanned a few completed chapters and it looks like ~7,000. Just to clarify, are you aiming for October to include the team leadership / intrapreneurship content? I had spring 2018 in my calendar. I’m not sure October is realistic for me unless we make it a small chapter.
Hi Krysta,
We plan on releasing the book in time for use in Jan 2018 spring semester classes, but that involves working backward and we’ll probably need to be done with all the editing and vetting by Dec. 1
I think a short chapter (3000 words?) that at least gives a good overview of the topic in October would be preferable. Or, even if there is a portion of the topic you think you could cover most easily in-depth, we could try to find another author to later add a different portion. (We would need your help in identifying how to divide it.) Let me know if either of these options might be workable on a (late) October timeline.
@lizmays A short chapter with a plan for expansion is do-able for late October. I’ll dig in over the weekend and connect after with a chapter outline.
@krysta.mcnutt Hi Krysta, That is fantastic. Thank you!
@lizmays is it helpful for me to annotate the current text as I review and align my chapter or has that time passed?
@krysta.mcnutt Hi Krysta, All feedback is welcome on the existing text. It’s especially welcome through November as we prepare for the “official launch.”
You are also welcome to join our Community of Practice calls with the community of educators teaching media innovation, journalism entrepreneurship, innovation labs, future of media/journalism, and related courses where they are using or plan to use the text. The schedule of those calls and link to join is here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXaMNYuq-eBK_1M6QAx5Y6-O2cyunkInYgHjwZ52xLHEGadQ/viewform
We will plan to edit your chapter in time to get feedback on it at the Nov. 21 call. If you’re able to be there, that would be excellent. If not, we will share the feedback with you after the fact.
@lizmays Perfect! Thank you for the invitation!
