Resource: Editing Content

Editing is a crucial phase in creating an OER, just as important as writing. In many ways, editing and writing are mutually dependent, two sides of a whole process.

Editing takes place at different scales, from structuring the chapters, units, and sections, to refining content with substantive editing and proofread. Together, these different kinds of editing make for a whole, coherent, and cohesive textbook.

Depending on your project, some editorial functions will be more relevant early on (like creating the book’s outline with the project manager), while others take precedence later, during review and feedback, copyediting, and final formatting (when proofreaders take a final look).

The editing section of the Guide covers these different roles and phases, and is a great place to start planning who will do what.
