See the full project summary for the book series of which this book is a part.(Project Summary - Introduction to Philosophy - Rebus Community)
This book is currently in need of an editor, as the previous editor stepped away from the project. The summary and outline we currently have (see below) could be adjusted, though several chapters are already written and we want to keep those!
We are looking for editors with a PhD in philosophy who also have teaching experience at the first-year level. The book editors will be responsible for finding authors for the chapters not yet assigned to authors, ensuring chapters are written in a timely fashion, editing the chapter drafts, working with the authors on revisions after peer review, and the like.
Please see the Book Editor role description for the series for more information on the editor role. Please note that as we do not have any grant or other funding for the book series, and as the books in the series are offered free of charge, this is a volunteer role.
If you have questions, please post them below! If you are interested, please email Christina Hendricks, series editor for the books, with a statement about your interest in the role and your relevant background. Please attach a copy of your CV as well.
Book Summary:
This book asks âhow should we live together?â and explores the ways in which social and political philosophies have influenced forms of political institutions, our ways of life, and current sociopolitcal debates. It will address the principles that establish and justify societies and governments, including the fundamental yet controversial principles of authority, justice, rights, equality, liberty, and democracy. It will look at how philosophers have conceived of the rights and responsibilities of a society to its members, of the members to society and to each other, and of a society to other societies.
Please review the draft Book Outline for a list of ideas for chapters that was written by the previous editor. As noted above, this could be changed with a new editor except for the chapters already written.
