Topic: How much is this going to cost? Budgeting OER Production

While the time and salaries of project managers and authors are typically the most significant investment in OER production, there are also often project costs and other expenditures related to supporting publishing. In this session, we’ll discuss the potential costs of OER production and how to create a budget. We’ll hear from guests who have created budgeting spreadsheets for their projects and programs. We’ll get their opinions on where to spend limited funds and discover common unanticipated costs. Our conversation will focus on estimating accurate projections based on the resources and priorities available at your institution to support OER production.

Hi Shrinivasan, costs of OER tools and portals vary, so if you had a specific one in mind, I could possibly look it up for you. Platforms may offer open source versions that you can setup and install for free, or may have reduced pricing for educational institutions, non-profit organizations, or for creators with limited funding — as you know with your own use of Pressbooks for your FreeTamilEbooks project. :slight_smile: So there’s no hard-and-fast answer!
