Description:

The Manitoba Foundations Group is leading the project in collaboration with Assiniboine Community College, Brandon University, and Campus Manitoba. This foundations guide will provide a starting point for those who want to learn more about Indigenous Peoples in the Prairie region of Canada and those who wish to begin their journey of understanding Canada’s colonial legacy. This adaptation is the work of many communities in western Manitoba ‘pulling together’ to localize the knowledge shared throughout the resource.

While there are no preconceived outcomes or expectations, we do hope that readers will come away after reading this foundations guide with more awareness of past and present realities for Indigenous Peoples in Canada, as well as a sense of comfort and understanding of what they, as individuals within post-secondary institutions, can do to participate in reconciliation. Another goal is that the readers take their learning off the page, as deeper understanding is experienced when readers thoughtfully engage in the activities that go beyond the resource itself. Lastly, our biggest goal is the success of the project process itself.
