March 17 Zoom Meeting Summary

At the March 17 Zoom Meeting we clarified the scope and uniqueness of our project as follows:

Our goal is to design an OER Math 143 College Algebra course for non-stem majors with a different pedagogical approach. The course will have three main learning objectives that are unique (based on content of the current Idaho GEM Math 143 College Algebra). First, the course will have the objective of helping students discover that what they think, do, and experience every day in their personal lives can be expressed, understood, analyzed, and reflected upon through the language and concepts of College Algebra content. Second, the course will have the objective of showing students how the concepts of College Algebra can apply to fields other than science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Third, the course will have the objective of developing the important softs skills currently in demand by employers: communication, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Our action items from the meeting are as follows:

Each member of the team will choose one topic/concept from College Algebra and design a lesson plan that meets the three main objectives. We will share our lesson plans with each other at our next Zoom meeting on March 24, 2020, at 2:30 PM.
