Phase 2, first group meeting! (May 26th, 2022)

@feb22c-cohort

Here’s a brief recap on our first Phase 2 meeting from last week:

We first discussed what will be the structure of our work together in Phase 2. We will have monthly meetings (for precise dates, see the Program Syllabus: February 2022 C Cohort), alternating between between group meetings and 1:1 meetings with teams and your facilitator (me!). Rebus’s experience is that the 1:1s are very valuable, so we will have 20 minute meetings for each time … and therefore, to make it a little less imposing, the group meetings will be a bit shorter than they were in Phase 1, just an hour.

All of the meetings should be in the same Zoom room as usual.

There is a sign-up sheet for teams to pick specific times for their 1:1s with me – generally within the usual time of our group meetings (Thursday at 3:30pm ET), although if that doesn’t work with your entire team and some other time would work, please reach out to me and we’ll see if we can make that other time possible (i.e., another day and/or time in the same week as the other 1:1 meetings). Here is that Feb 22c Cohort, Phase 2, 1:1 Sign-up Sheet - Google Sheets

A major ongoing activity, which we will share with each other both in the Rebus community forum and in our live group meetings, will be to talk about

  • progress on projects
  • goals, steps, and challenges for the upcoming month of work
In particular, to get started, please meet with your team (as many as you can, synchronously or not) to make those first set of
  • goals: what you intend to accomplish in the next month, such as “write chapter X” or “get review process started” or some other fairly specific, well-defined goals; and
  • steps: specific steps to achieve that goal, such as “finish drafts of two sections of chapter X in each of the next four weeks” or “write review guide and sample chapter next week; get emails with detailed review assignments out the following week; check up on review progress a week later; etc.”; and
  • challenges: here put one to three of the things you think might be the biggest challenges to accomplishing the goals and steps you specified, such as “I’m having trouble finding enough examples for section X.Y” or “folks who said they would review for me have ghosted me recently”

Please put these goals/steps/challenges – after agreeing with your teams! – as a reply in this thread!

I will remind you about a week before our next meeting, which is a 1:1 meeting, to update your post with any specifics that may make our meeting more productive, such as whether you are staying on target with your goals and steps, if the anticipated challenges have been overcome and/or if other challenges have arisen.

Additionally, when you make progress, such as having a sample chapter you are proud of, a Pressbooks version of part of your OER which looks good, a style guide or student agreement form that you are ready to use with others – please reply in this thread to share with other teams in this cohort! We can provide each other with specific help and, more broadly, general positive feedback – but only if we have some idea of how each other’s work is going!

So, the tl;dr is:

  1. sign up for your 1:1 session in June, here: Feb 22c Cohort, Phase 2, 1:1 Sign-up Sheet - Google Sheets
  2. post a reply here with your goals/steps/challenges
  3. post progress here as well

Oh, and in case anyone did not fill out the Phase 1 feedback, please do so by going here: Feb22 Create Cohort Survey . That will help us support you better, e.g., with special topics (like the licensing mentioned above) for group meetings during Phase 2.

thanks, see you here in the forum and synchronously in June!

Jonathan
